That yaller heeifer..

As I drive up the lane to that old grey barn, she has both her eyes dedicated to my direction, that yaller heifer that is. I guess some of them calvies gots a little bit of somethin' extra in'em. No those eyes aren't turned towards me in joy, just fear. It doesn't take a lot to spook that lil gal. I go through pouring that bucket out them calvies rush to the trough, that is except her that yaller heifer. Who knows why she gets so spooked, could be breeding, or handing, or maybe she was born in a patch of briers. I do know to tread lightly around that lil gal.

Oh, the heat.

What a hard time of year for cattle. You know somedays they get so hot they just don't want to stand up. I am beginning to think they can't fight off infection as well either. In fact I am treating a few for that right now. It is definitely not the kind of temperature to work them in, they tend to get a little cranky. I have some experience on that front, let's just say I'll remember it for a while. The flies are terrible, not as bad if the cattle will use the rub sacks. Maybe if cattle prices stay decently up and we can get'em out we can all keep eating.
